THL Gourmet Foods Inc. is one of the leading importer and distributor of food products from the Pacific Rim and other regions of the world. We are currently looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team and contribute to the company’s financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. You will report to the Finance/Accounting Manager, this role supports daily accounting operations, ensures financial accuracy, and contributes to process improvements. Key responsibilities include transaction processing, reconciliations, assisting with accounts payable and financial reporting, analyzing financial information, and participating in accounting projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process financial transactions in accordance with company policies and GAAP, including accounts payable, prepaid expenditures, fixed assets, inventory, and deferred revenue.
- Verify and input invoices, payment requisitions, and other transactions into the ERP system.
- Perform weekly check runs, wire transfers, EFTs, and other payment methods.
- Maintain organized digital records and filing systems.
- Conduct regular bank and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial processes, including journal entries and period-end adjustments.
- Participate in budget preparation and financial planning processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist with finance department projects, including software and system implementations.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulatory requirements, tax filings, and reporting obligations.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting to support management decisions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- CPA designation or progress in the CPA program is preferred.
- Minimum three years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting processes and GAAP.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, macros).
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience with ERP software (e.g., MS D365 F&O) is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and a professional demeanor with internal and external stakeholders.
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Assets/ Nice-to-Haves:
- At least 2 years of experience working in a Junior Accountant or similar role.
- Preferably enrolled in the CPA program.
- Experience in the food wholesale industry.
- Familiarity with MS D365 F&O.
Working Hours:
- Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (8-hour shifts)
Compensation & Benefits:
- Expected Gross Hourly Wage: $23.48 -$32.87
- Disclosure Statements: Pay for this position includes bonus will be based on individual performance. Please ask the recruiter for details regarding base pay and bonus.
