Hours of work: Full time, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week - some overtime will be required to support evenings and, on occasion, weekends

Rate of pay: $31.03- $37.42 - Hourly (Starting salary will be determined by factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity and market conditions)

How You Will Make an Impact

Dorothy Day Place provides low-barrier permanent supportive housing to women (cis, Trans, non-binary, 2 Spirit) who have experienced chronic homelessness in the community. The program offers a hospitable and respectful environment for people who face significant personal and structural barriers to accessing and maintaining housing. Commitment to the provision of cultural safety and Trans/Gender positive space is prioritized. Dorothy Day operates within a trauma-informed, feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive framework and is firmly rooted in harm reduction principles.

  • Thorough knowledge of issues impacting women (cis, Trans, non-binary, 2 Spirit) including gender-based violence, child witnessing, homelessness, poverty, mental health harm reduction, and substance use
  • Prepare budgets and monitor revenues and expenses, responsible for the purchasing of supplies
  • Interview, onboard, and train new employees
  • Supervise the hospitality team and volunteers, including scheduling, training, performance evaluation and service delivery planning
  • To provide after hours on-call support as needed
  • Coordinate catering requests, as needed
  • Liaise with Good Shepherd Housing Department to manage relationships with suppliers/outside contractors for the provision of materials, contracted work, cleanly and dignified environment and security and safety provisions
  • Respond and coordinate/schedule maintenance concerns/work orders within Dorothy Day's programs and facilities
  • Provide support to contractors/maintenance personnel on-site
  • Collaboration and communication with the development office and program donors
  • Leadership of department Health and Safety program, including development of procedures, training and remain current on health and safety legislation
  • Represent Good Shepherd at community events as required
  • Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • A completed post-secondary education in a relevant field of study is required. Relevant area of study includes but are not limited to Hospitality, Culinary Arts or Food and Beverage Management
  • Minimum of three years related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership, supervisory or management experience is required
  • G class license and ability to drive the Good Shepherd Vehicles
  • Demonstrated customer/client service and communication skills
  • Planning, inventory management and budgeting experience
  • Health and Safety certification (sector specific) or willingness to be certified
  • Safe food handling certification or willing to be certified
  • CPR/First Aid certification required
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training or a willingness to be certified
  • Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd Centres
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation
