With a commitment to excellence, collaboration, and innovation, they are seeking a skilled Senior Project Accountant to play a key role in managing the financial performance of large-scale construction projects.
Position Overview
The Senior Project Accountant will oversee project-level financials, ensuring accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting. This role will act as the primary financial partner to project managers, providing insights to support decision-making, profitability, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction accounting and strong knowledge of Jonas Construction Software.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the financial aspects of multiple construction projects, including cost tracking, forecasting, and budget-to-actual analysis
- Partner with project managers to monitor project profitability, timelines, and risk management
- Prepare and review monthly project financial reports, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and variance analyses
- Ensure compliance with contractual terms, change orders, and billing requirements
- Process progress billings, lien waivers, and subcontractor payments in alignment with project agreements
- Review, analyze, and reconcile job cost reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and reconciliations
- Mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on project accounting best practices
- Support process improvements and contribute to system optimization initiatives
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience within the construction industry
- Strong proficiency with Jonas Construction Software (required)
- Solid understanding of project-based accounting, job costing, and revenue recognition
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations and finance teams
- CPA designation (or in progress) considered an asset
