About the Role

We are looking for a Director, Finance & Data Strategy to bring both strategic vision and operational excellence to our finance function. This dynamic leadership role is at the heart of our operations, and acts as a driver for excellence in financial reporting and data analysis. Reporting directly to the President & CEO and part of the Senior Leadership team, the Director Finance & Data Strategy serves as a trusted partner on financial planning, budgeting, goal setting, KPI’s, and database oversite.

You’ll lead with a balance of rigor and creativity—ensuring strong financial stewardship, while also contributing to innovative approaches that maximize impact for our mission. You’ll collaborate closely with the Foundation senior leaders and play a key role in supporting organizational growth, donor confidence, and long-term sustainability.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all finance operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, accounts payable, funding grants, and Foundation financial management.
  • Partner with the President & CEO and Foundation senior leaders on strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Oversee the full accounting cycle, including financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
  • Lead the annual HRHF budget development and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Manage the year-end audit process and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies, procedures, and practices that drive efficiency and best practices.
  • Mentor and guide a small but mighty finance & database team (3 direct reports), fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and empowerment.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and long-term planning for Foundation budgeting and goal setting.
  • Staff lead for the HRHF Finance & Audit Committee, preparing all Committee materials and managing all actions and decisions arising from F&A Committee Meetings.
  • Main staff liaison with the external Investment Advisors, monitoring the investment accounts on a regular basis and maintaining a strong attention to investment fluctuations.
  • Build and maintain a strong rapport with our banking partner, and structure digital banking and financial operations to peak efficiency.
  • With input from Database Administrator and HRHF senior leaders, structures and oversees annual KPI’s for fundraising teams, and individual team members.
  • Direct Liaison with the HRH Finance Team and works as a collaborative partner to prepare for and finalize monthly Financials for HRHF.
  • Build strong relationships across the Foundation, Humber River Health senior leaders, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and trust in HRHF financial reporting.

What You Bring

  • CPA designation (CA, CGA, or CMA).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a finance or accounting supervisory role, with responsibility for the full accounting cycle.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage, mentor, and inspire teams.
  • Solid knowledge of financial reporting standards and compliance requirements (experience in the non-profit/charity sector is an asset).
  • Demonstrated success in budget development, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Experience managing audits and liaising with external auditors.
  • Experience overseeing a CRM and optimizing data tracking and reporting.
  • Excellent financial analysis and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge is an asset.
