We are accepting applications from CVRD CUPE Local 556 members only for a seven-month, full-time term, Supervisor - Comox Valley Waste Management Centre - Solid Waste Services position to join our team, from June to December 2026 or upon return of the incumbent.

Reporting to the Manager of CSWM Operations, the primary responsibilities of this role include:

Scheduling, directing, supervising, training and development of staff. Creating and implementing operator competencies in accordance with industry standards.

Implementing the Comox Valley Regional District Occupational Health and Safety Program within their assigned operations, with support from the Occupational Health and Safety Advisor, while promoting a strong safety culture.

Overseeing operating expenses including, supplies, tools and equipment, and contracted services.

Coordinating and monitoring the preventive maintenance program for all equipment.

Preparing and reporting on anticipated costs, utilizationm, forecasts and facility repair and maintenance requirements to support the Asset Management Plan.

Responding to employee concerns and representing the Employer at Step 1 of the grievance process under the collective agreement.

Identifying and diagnosing operational issues, and developing and implementing effective solutions.

Resolving complex or escalated public concerns.

Completing and maintaining accurate records, including logbooks, time sheets, and absence reports.

Is mechanically inclined and skilled at troubleshooting operational issues in a landfill environment.

Has completed one to two years of post-secondary education in a related environmental or heavy construction field.

Has experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment and trucks used in landfill operations, along with up to five years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment.

Holds a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement and First Aid Level 1 certification.

Possesses (or is working toward) SWANA certification as a Manager of Landfill Operations (preferred).

Is proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using Adobe Acrobat, Explorer, and SharePoint.

A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is required for this role.

This is a CUPE Local 556 position with a current wage rate of $51.80 per hour.
