Compensation Details:

  • Business Development 19: Salaries typically range from $109,810 to $158, 750 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 3 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s Community Hub in Toronto.

Team Overview:

The Partnerships Group is accountable for corporate & regional level relationship management, driving results through a win-win-win approach with domestic & international financial institutions (FI), private-equity firms, alternative lenders and other Private, Government and Association organizations. The team develops and executes corporate & regional level plans within each Partnership and Region Ecosystem and deploys channel tactics within key business units to grow and improve our collective support to Canadian Exporters.

The Enterprise Partnerships team, 1 of 3 functions within the Partnerships Group, is looking for our next Partnerships Director for our Canadian Financial Institution team. As Partnerships Director, you are responsible for EDC’s Head Office/corporate engagement and strategic business development with Canada’s leading financial institutions that collaborate with EDC to help Canadian exporters. In this role, you will oversee a handful of Financial Institution partnerships, plan at the enterprise level and ensure mutual alignment with EDC’s corporate strategy and value proposition. Your portfolio will consist of relationships with Senior leaders and Heads of Business at major Canadian banks and financial institutions across the organization’s key lines of business of Business Development, Credit Risk and International Trade prioritized by their strategic impact and alignment with EDC’s mandate to build, grow and facilitate more export trade opportunities for Canadian businesses.

Recognized for your ability to build trusting, long-term relationships and a deep network across the Head Office and Executive level contacts within Canada’s financial institution ecosystem, you will play a pivotal role in advancing EDC’s corporate objectives through mutually beneficial partnerships.

What you will be doing:

  • A senior level Partnership relationship management individual contributor role, reporting to the Director or Enterprise Partnerships team
  • Leading the development and execution of partnership plans for those key financial institution partners at the corporate level, setting direction and building alignment to drive both EDC’s and the financial institutions key business objectives and corporate strategies
  • Accountable to motivate, delegate and participate in the business results for each Partnership you are responsible for through clear KPIs and objectives that ensure comprehensive coverage of relevant sectors and opportunities across Canada.
  • Building and maintaining effective, trust-based relationships with Head Office contacts at major Canadian financial institutions aligned to EDC’s mandate to grow exporters and international trade activity for Canada.
  • Engage proactively with executive sponsors and senior leaders (EVP, SVP and VPs,) at both EDC and partner institutions to foster high-level collaboration and support aligned to Partnership Plan objectives
  • Prepare briefing notes and onboarding materials for EDC executives ahead of key meetings and market visits, ensuring leadership is equipped with relevant insights and context for each partner.
  • Championing high-impact objectives that have mutual corporate support from concept to adoption, inspiring cross-functional business teams to deliver measurable results and foster appropriate alignment and responsibilities between EDC and the respective partner.
  • Serving as the subject matter expert for EDC’s BD financial institution partnerships, including representing EDC and the Partnerships team at key market events and industry platforms, and sharing market intelligence to inform EDC’s product and corporate strategy continuum
  • Collaborating closely with senior internal stakeholders from EDC’s business development, product, risk, compliance and operations teams to ensure progress, focus, and effective escalation management on partnership objectives.
  • Occasional business travel will be required to advance and support key partnership deliverables and team needs.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate Degree in International Business, Commerce or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of business development or B2B partner relationship management
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in international business management or corporate lending
  • An established network, within Senior Head Office level contacts of Canadian Financial Institutions relevant to EDC’s mandate (ie. Commercial or Corporate Banking, Risk Management and International Trade)
  • Experience in leading corporate-level initiatives in a matrixed environment with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstration of strong strategic mindset, influencing skills and relationship management
  • Strong understanding of EDC’s lines of business, value proposition and mandate

What will make you stand out:

  • Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation
  • Knowledge of financial institution credit and lending practices, particular emphasis within Corporate Banking/National Accounts
  • Knowledge of international business practices and international trade
  • Bilingual in both official languages (English and French)
  • Business development experience to drive partnership deliverables
  • Experience in B2B partnership management including corporate-level negotiations, corporate strategy development, new opportunity development or co-creation and corporate KPI or target setting and adoption
