America Fujikura Limited (AFL) is on the hunt for Design Technician who is dynamic, innovative, detail orientated and excels at visualization and concepts to join our Canadian Operations in Southwest Ontario.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare design layouts for aerial and underground FTTH networks, including conduit routes, handholes, fiber paths, and splice plans.
  • Produce high-level design, Municipal consent Design, and issued-for-construction packages with accurate details
  • Ensure drawings are accurate, easy to read, polished and adhere to standards
  • Ensure compliance with CSA, OESC, CRTC, utility joint-use agreements, and municipal access agreements
  • Perform required revisions to design packages based on internal QA/QC, client feedback, or permitting authority comments.
  • Review vendor-submitted designs for accuracy, compliance, and constructability, providing feedback and corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct peer reviews of designs to ensure quality and consistency across projects
  • Use GIS, AutoCAD, and related tools to create accurate network maps, shapefiles, and permit drawings.
  • Incorporate fielding data, LiDAR/photogrammetry, and municipal land-base datasets into design packages.
  • Verify address point data (SFU, MXU, MTU, commercial) and classify premises into correct categories.
  • Support submission of municipal consent and right-of-way, Make ready and Joint use applications with clear and compliant design packages.
  • Support Construction and Project Management team on delivering as-built records to Client or municipalities
  • Attend field surveys and site walks to validate proposed routes, structures, and network layouts, and make adjustments as required based on team lead approval and construction lead feedback.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet client specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  • Regularly meet with stakeholders, both internal and external, to review plans
  • Communicate project requirements, designs, issues, status updates and deliverables with Engineering Team
  • Assist team members, both within the office and in the field, as required
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned

Qualifications & Education:

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, GIS, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in telecom OSP or FTTH design
  • Proven ability to prepare design layouts, perform revisions, review vendor designs, and conduct field data collection.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SPIDA Calc, O-Calc, Quick Pole, or GIS platforms (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in both aerial and underground fiber design methodologies, including splice planning, duct assignments, and route validation.
  • Familiarity with Ontario permitting processes (Municipal Consent, Joint Use, MTO, Conservation Authorities) considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge Centralized and Distributed network Architecture
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret survey data, utility records, and construction drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with pole loading analysis, make-ready engineering, and utility coordination
  • Exposure to construction workflows, redline updates, and QA/QC processes.
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, GIS, or related field.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office Schedule
  • Monday to Friday, requirement for multiple time zones
  • Travel to sites is required
  • Fast-Paced project delivery environment with multiple concurrent deadlines.
