KEY FUNCTION: Coordinate patient appointments and perform clerical duties for the department.

REPORTING: Under the general direction of the Manager, Outpatient Clinics.

DUTIES:

  1. Update patient information and schedule appointments and tests.

  2. Document physician orders and prepare patient charts.

  3. Respond to inquiries and relay telephone calls and messages.

  4. Arrange discharge services for patients.

  5. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.

  6. Participate in hospital training as required.

  7. Assist with improvement initiatives as required.

  8. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  1. Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).

  2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. One (1) year recent relevant experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.

  2. Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 45words per minute.

  3. Demonstrated computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems.

  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families and healthcare workers.

  5. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.

  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks.

  7. Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.

  8. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

  1. Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  2. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

  3. Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.

  4. Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.

  6. Ability to travel between local sites.
