The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent full-time Communications Specialist in the Corporate Communications division.
Job description
The Communications Specialist is responsible for providing communications and marketing support for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent within the Corporate Communications team. This includes developing and implementing communications plans, marketing strategies, as well as administration for Social Media initiatives.
Essential responsibilities
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Develop and execute communications and marketing plans to achieve strategic goals throughout the corporation Deliver strategic and conceptual design solutions on short turnaround times
- Produce customized communications and marketing material
- Take a leadership role in the composition, development and execution of communications and marketing materials (videos, brochures, flyers, posters, print advertisements, etc.) in response to specific requests from departments throughout the corporation
- Compile web and social analytics and statistical information from various sources
- Create and/or maintain web pages on Chatham-Kent's community portal
- Aid in the administration and regulation of the corporate and community communications materials branding toolkit
- Social media administrator including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as others as required
- Assist the Manager, Corporate Communications with the execution of the corporate marketing plans, press releases and media events
- Attend and assist at community events as required
Essential qualifications
- College diploma or university degree (preferably in a communications, marketing, journalism, or media studies), with two (2) to four (4) years related experience
- Experience working in marketing environment, which includes communication, promotion and public relations
- Experience working in a communications environment, which includes marketing, promotion and public relations
- Experience with video production, editing, and scripting
Experience working with website layout/updates and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, blogging, etc.)
- Experience with strategic brainstorming, campaign development, creative brief development and creative execution
- Experience with designing and developing marketing collateral (images, written, video, flyers, posters, brochures, media releases, photography, presentations)
- Knowledge of/experience working with the media
- Experience compiling demographics and statistical information
- Experience in organization, planning and implementation of marketing initiatives
- Superior communication, promotion, marketing and public relations skills
- Proven aptitude for quick creative thinking with acute attention to detail with demanding deadlines
- Experience working in a fast paced environment, managing multiple projects, programs and priorities requiring a high degree of mental concentration
- Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program)
Other qualifications
- Experience in using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere and InDesign) an asset
Work environment/hours of work
- This position works mostly indoors
- This position works weekday hours, with occasional evening and weekend hours
Driver’s licence/vehicle requirements
Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.
Background check requirements
Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check.
Essential physical and/or safety requirements
- Walking: frequent on walking on level surface (walking throughout office space)
- Sitting: constant sitting in a chair (majority of day spent at computer desk)
- Reaching: frequent reaching below shoulder, forward, handling (up to 11.4 kgs or 25 lbs) (filing and placing boxes of material on shelves)
- Hands: constant fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (graphic design, data entry, typing, mousing frequently)
