About the role

Position Summary

Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed Home Support Scheduler to support the Home and Community Care department.

In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Home Support Scheduler is responsible for developing and coordinating home support service schedules by preparing and adjusting schedules in accordance with service referral requests and applicable collective agreements. Schedules Community Health Workers (CHW) as authorized by clinicians by receiving referrals and service changes, enters data into computer system, and carries out timekeeping tasks such as coordinating work schedules on the scheduling software system.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: 10:12 to 18:00, Rotating

Fraser Lake Community Health Centre is a diagnostic and treatment centre with no in-patient or overnight beds. The Health Centre is open Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The Health Centre serves the population of Fraser Lake, Fort Fraser, Endako and the Nadleh and Stellat’en First Nations communities. The Services at Fraser Lake Community Health Center include:

  • Four outpatient bays
  • Emergency stabilization and transfer
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Laboratory
  • Community Palliative Care Support

Other facility services include:

  • Primary Care Nursing
  • Mental Health and Substance Use
  • Dietitian
  • Occupational Therapy
  • BC Ambulance
  • Outreach clinics to surrounding communities

Hospital Staff:

  • Full and part-time physicians

  • Nurse Practitioners

  • Nursing Staff

  • Visiting Specialists

Patients requiring further care are referred to St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof or the University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George.

Fraser Lake is known as the “White Swan Capital of the World” for the hundreds of migrating trumpeter swans that winter there each November. With a superb view of the surrounding lakes and rivers from the top of Mouse Mountain, the area’s most prominent landmark, you are sure to be enchanted with the Village of Fraser Lake. The main industries are mining and forestry. Fraser Lake has one elementary school and one combined elementary/secondary school. The population of Fraser Lake is 1,000 residents. Qualifications
  • Grade 12. Graduation from a recognized Office Administration Certificate program and two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to type 40 wpm.

  • Ability to operate scheduling and database software in a windows environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to clients and families, community health workers and all members of the health care team.

  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.

  • Knowledge of general office procedures.

  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and manage several tasks at once.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
