At the hub of ENMAX Power is a highly technical Operations Planning Engineering team committed to operational excellence in reliability. We are looking for an Engineer, Operations Planning to join our team of passionate engineers. This role will coordinate and perform contingency studies for planned and unplanned outages on the ENMAX distribution and downtown network systems providing engineering support and training for real time System Control Center Operators for short and medium terms operations.
Major Responsibilities:
- Update and maintain technical control center procedures for engineering and real time operators
- Perform control center operator training for specific engineering topics
- Study and mitigate real-time and short-term distribution and downtown network system outages – Perform contingency plans with proposed mitigation steps
- Use modelling and power flow software to communicate technical risk to EPC business units
- Perform AESO Waiver Process which documents load transfers between substations to meet compliance requirements
- Advise PD departments on actionable strategies, based on reliability metrics and operational considerations
- Develop staging plans for the integration of major projects into the distribution and network system
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) in terms of RSAW evidence and program adherence
- Coordinate multi-departmental EPC incident Management Team in responding to and recovering from system incidents
- Aid in system disturbance analysis data gathering and reporting
Education Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registration with APEGA as professional Engineer
Qualifications & Experience:
- 4 years of utility or role related experience
- Sound understanding of electrical engineering theory along with utility/industry knowledge
- The ability to quickly learn new simulation packages and operating policies and procedures
- Understanding of distribution system issues including voltage concerns, overload mitigation, and schedule conflicts
- Understanding in the operations and/or planning of transmission and distribution power systems
- SQL, Python, DAX and VBA Programming experience
- SCADA, OMS, DMS and EMS experience would be a preference
- Computer Science Background would be a preference
- This is a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) designated role. CIP training is required to be completed annually, as well as a requirement to have a criminal record check completed every 7 years and to pass a personal risk assessment

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to facilitate efficient discussion and produce effective documentation
- Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage a wide variety of projects/programs and the associated active issues and risks
