About the role

Job Description

Work Arrangement: Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham Elevation Centre (MEC) three times per week, at minimum.

We are seeking a highly-motivated Software Quality Architect for the Suspension ART (Agile Release Train) under the Embedded Platform Suspension engineering product organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the Suspension ART is delivering the first-time Built-in-Quality software at the right time to different stakeholders and downstream customers. This role is part of the Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) engineering department at General Motors Canada.

This role is pivotal in ensuring our safety-critical embedded software systems meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and performance. You will drive the adoption of Built-In Quality (BIQ) principles, define and evolve software development lifecycle (SDLC) strategies, and champion cross-functional collaboration across engineering domains. This is a leadership role requiring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a passion for innovation.

What You'll Do (Roles & Responsibilities)

  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and execution-focused environment for the Agile Release Train (ART)
  • Own the Solution Assurance strategy for the VMEC Suspension software products by defining and maintaining the testing roadmap
  • Lead Built-in-Quality (BiQ) improvement initiatives and metrics development for the Suspension ART
  • Proactively work with ART Leadership team to strategize short-term and long-term actions as relevant to quality improvement and update backlogs
  • Own quality metrics and testing results, by frequent analysis of the data and guiding suspension engineering teams to improve their software products iteratively
  • Continuously engage with all the internal and external stakeholders to stay up-to-date with latest enterprise-level best practices and SDLC requirements
  • Champion cross-functional process improvements with other organizations and teams contributing to the software products
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the Software Quality Assurance scrum, as well as other ART members
  • Guide and ensure proper practices of Behavior Driven Development (BDD) methodology, including development of Behavior Technical Specifications (BTS) and required test scripts, at different levels of Test Pyramid
  • Communicate vision, roadmap, and improvement opportunities to the leadership team
  • Provide clear visibility into ART progress, risks, and issues for leadership and stakeholders, focused on Testing/Quality metrics and milestones
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying bottlenecks and implementing actionable enhancement plans, leveraging embedding practices for Built-In Quality, DevOps, and CI/CD

Your Skills & Experience (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Software, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience, preferably in the vehicle dynamics domain
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team
  • Excellent time management, oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with automotive software standards, test methods/procedures, and build processes; behavior-driven development and test-driven development (TDD and BDD)
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Experience with software configuration management processes and tools (eg: Atlassian Jira, Optimus, Git Suites, etc.)
  • Experience working with software development and testing tools and pipelines, using BDD methods
  • Knowledge of controls theory and the software development process
  • High analytical ability and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on schedule
  • Must be legally allowed to work in Canada and able to travel to the US

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills )

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechatronics, Software, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Experience with large-scale Agile frameworks and Continuous Delivery environments
  • Demonstrated success in leading organizational change (processes and practices) and large-scale projects
