Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
- Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
- Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
- Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
- Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
- Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
- Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
- Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
- Assisting with Restorative Dining during meal services ;
- Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
- Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution
- or Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that is equivalent to the diploma, degree or certificate
- Skills and experience in a health care or similar setting
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, care planning, resident assessments, implementation, and evaluation for geriatric population especially those cognitively impaired is preferred
- Experience with an older adult population an asset
- Strong customer and resident service skills.
- Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset
- Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Activity Pro and Point Click Care
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
- Must provide proof of a 2 step TB test
