About the role
Tomlinson Group of Companies is currently seeking a Design Technician to join our Survey team. This position will report to the Survey Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with data preparation and design creation using Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center software. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality work.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Creating 2D and 3D technical drawings.

Working closely with project teams, including Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Coordinators, and field staff, to ensure that drawings and models meet project requirements and specifications.

Responsible for adhering to Tomlinson’s design standards and best practices, ensuring that all drawings and models are accurate, clear, consistent, and compatible with Tomlinson’s GPS systems (data collectors and machine control).

Reviewing and revising designs as necessary, based on new site instructions, and/or changes in project requirements.

Creating as-built documentation and volume calculations required to demonstrate compliance with engineering designs, codes, regulations, and other requirements.

Conducting quality control checks on their designs, ensuring that all drawings and models meet project requirements and are free of errors.

Staying up to date with industry trends and technologies, including new software releases, emerging design techniques, and best practices.
Requirements:
- The following qualifications are mandatory for the position:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel Knowledge of Trimble Business Center software.
- Knowledge of Earthworks is considered and asset.
- Knowledge of Geomatics is considered an asset.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, survey, and topographic drawings.
- Knowledge of current construction industry practices and standards.
- Experience in a construction setting is considered an asset.
- Detail-oriented individual who takes initiative.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple projects, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines.
- Capable of recognizing discrepancies in engineering drawings and strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
- Valid G-class driver's license is required.
Compensation Information:
The expected salary range for this position is $55,000 - $77,000. Placement within the range is dependant on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
