Integrated Sustainability and Compliance Business Unit Director

Role description: Arcadis is seeking a motivated leader to be the Integrated Sustainability and Compliance (ISC) Business Unit Director (BUD), overseeing a rapidly growing, professional services group providing a broad range of consulting services. In this position, you will be a member of Arcadis Canada Resilience Team reporting directly to the Canadian Resilience Business Area Director (BAD).
You will be responsible for the leadership, management, and financial performance of the Integrated Sustainability and Compliance (ISC) which comprises of our Sustainable Operations, Sustainable Advisory, and Digital EHS &S business units. The leader of this important growth practice will need to continue to build the team as we bring together these services; work in collaboration across the matrixed organization with our Market Sector, Account and Solution Leaders; and support growth while ensuring successful project delivery and delivery of the business unit metrics and Resilience bottom line. This business unit includes the delivery for the following services:
- Sustainable Operations, such as Rad Risk, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance and advisory, Industrial Hygiene, Air/Noise/Vibration Permitting & Compliance, and Mergers & Acquisition and Due Diligence advisory.
- Digital EHS
- Sustainability Advisory
Role accountabilities: The successful candidate will have:
- A track record of building functional and successful teams within a consulting organization, as well as experience leading client account teams and technical service offerings.
- Strong communication skills - both oral and written - with a proactive style that demonstrates analytical thinking and the ability to deliver clear, persuasive messages.
- The ability to connect with people at all levels of the organization, handle sensitive personnel issues, and collaborate effectively with Business Unit Directors, Market Sector Leaders, and Solutions Directors to support business growth.
- A solid understanding of Arcadis capabilities, strategy, and priorities, as well as the ability to own and drive company initiatives such as GEC usage, MEPC, digital products, and digitalization (including standardization and automation).
The primary responsibilities include:
- Business Growth & Financial Performance: Ensure continued profitable growth by meeting annual financial targets and executing work profitably; identify and evaluate market opportunities in line with Arcadis strategy to expand ISC services and solutions.
- Leadership & Team Development: Maintain a strong, aligned leadership team; provide robust people leadership including hiring, resource management, performance management, professional development, and fostering an environment where staff feel valued and inspired to excel.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Collaborate across the matrixed organization—including client account teams, Market Sector Leaders, Service Line Leaders, corporate services, and other Arcadis leaders throughout Canada—to drive company priorities such as GEC usage, MEPC, digital offerings, and sustainability.
- Training, Quality, & Safety: Ensure all ISC staff receive appropriate technical, project management, health & safety, and client-specific training to deliver quality work safely; act as a visible steward of health and safety.
- Business Development & Commercial Success: Support, oversee, or lead the development of responses to RFPs and commercial offerings; work closely with Growth and Service Line teams to create and capitalize on opportunities to sell ISC services and solutions, contributing to profitable growth for Arcadis.
Qualifications & Experience: The successful candidate will have 12-15 years of experience in an environmental or engineering consultancy, and a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant, technical field.
Experience as an Arcadis team manager or Area Leader, and as an Account Leader, with operational business unit experience, either at Arcadis or another company is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $166,000-216,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
