About the role

Activity-Based Costing (ABC) Analyst – Contract We are seeking a highly analytical and results-driven Activity-Based Costing (ABC) Analyst to lead the design, implementation, and management of our Activity-Based Costing framework across manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, and corporate operations. This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys building costing methodologies from the ground up and partnering with operational leaders to improve visibility into product, customer, channel, and operational profitability. The successful candidate will play a critical role in helping the organization make data-driven decisions related to pricing, operational efficiency, resource allocation, and strategic growth. Key Responsibilities Build and Manage Activity-Based Costing (ABC) Design, develop, implement, and manage the organization's Activity-Based Costing (ABC) methodology. Identify, define, and validate cost pools, activities, resource drivers, and cost drivers across manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, and support functions. Develop and maintain costing models that accurately allocate direct and indirect costs to products, customers, channels, facilities, and business units. Lead the transition from traditional costing methods to a robust ABC framework where applicable. Continuously review and refine costing assumptions, allocation methodologies, and driver rates to ensure accuracy and relevance. Manufacturing and Distribution Cost Analysis Analyze manufacturing costs including labor, materials, machine utilization, overhead, scrap, rework, downtime, and production efficiency. Evaluate warehousing, logistics, transportation, freight, picking, packing, and fulfillment costs. Develop profitability models by product line, customer, distribution channel, geographic region, and facility. Identify operational inefficiencies and cost-reduction opportunities through detailed activity analysis. Support inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis initiatives. Financial Analysis and Business Insights Deliver meaningful profitability analysis and actionable business recommendations to leadership teams. Support strategic pricing decisions through detailed cost and margin analysis. Perform customer profitability, product profitability, and channel profitability assessments. Assist with make-versus-buy analyses, capital investment evaluations, and operational improvement initiatives. Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term strategic planning activities. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations, Procurement, Engineering, Sales, and Finance teams to understand business processes and identify cost-generating activities. Collaborate with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and Operational Excellence teams to quantify savings opportunities and track realized benefits. Present costing methodologies, findings, and recommendations to senior leadership and operational stakeholders. Systems, Reporting, and Analytics Integrate ABC methodologies with ERP, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and Business Intelligence platforms. Develop dashboards, KPIs, and automated reporting tools using Excel, Power BI, SQL, or similar analytics platforms. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of costing and operational data. Support ERP costing module implementations, enhancements, and system optimization projects. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline. CPA, CMA, CPA-CMA, ACCA, or equivalent professional designation preferred. Experience 5+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, operational finance, manufacturing finance, or activity-based costing. Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing Activity-Based Costing systems within manufacturing and distribution environments. Experience supporting profitability analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making. Experience working in multi-site manufacturing or distribution organizations is considered an asset. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of: Activity-Based Costing (ABC) Cost Accounting Standard Costing Inventory Valuation Variance Analysis Product and Customer Profitability Analysis Manufacturing and Supply Chain Cost Structures Experience with: ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Infor, Epicor, NetSuite, JD Edwards) Power BI, Tableau, or other Business Intelligence tools Advanced Microsoft Excel SQL and financial data analysis tools Preferred Qualifications CPA or CMA designation. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement certification. Experience implementing costing models in manufacturing and distribution operations. Strong financial modeling and business analytics capabilities. What Success Looks Like Improved visibility into operational, customer, and product profitability.
