POSITION SUMMARY:
The Painter is responsible for repairing architectural finishes, painting, minor renovations and aesthetics within the Hospital.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to work independently to maintain and/or create standardized colour palettes
- Interaction with departmental managers to select paint schemes and schedule access to complete painting/finishing projects
- Inspecting and repairing architectural finishes on the hospital site.
- Preparing paint to a colour standard.
- Preparing paint to match existing painted finishes.
- Preparing wall finishes.
- Preparing and finishing surfaces to specifications.
- Preparing and finishing surfaces to match existing (sample) surfaces.
- Maintaining and repairing materials and tools of the trade.
- Assisting with minor renovations and construction
- Execution of general maintenance
- Repairing and/or replacing baseboard floor moulding.
- Plastering and drywalling etc. to install and/or repair walls and/or ceilings.
- Ensuring accurate estimates of material requirements and costs and preparing requisitions.
- Completing work orders and associated documentation
Perform other duties as may be requested by the Director of Facilities Management
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Completion of Grade 12 is required.
- Possession of a registered Painter certificate required.
- Completion of an apprenticeship Program is required.
Experience:
- At least five years experience in direct practice as a painter is required.
- Current Ministry of College and Universities (of Ontario) certificate of qualification in the certified trade of “Painter-Decorator” is required.
Competencies:
- Demonstrated knowledge in various coating applications to include: epoxy, melamine, fiberglass, wall protective undercoatings, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MSDS requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, in situations that require tack, diplomacy and discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to accept and act upon constructive criticism to upgrade abilities.
- Ability to time-manage, prioritize a heavy workload and multi-task.
- Ability to interact positively and cooperatively with all key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated comprehension of a wide range of technical subjects involving Facilities Management
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend blueprints, specifications and operational maintenance manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible with schedule work and analyze equipment and supplies needs accordingly.
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend chemical safety, storage and handling.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with minor construction, renovation work and general maintenance.
