Under the guidance of the Camp OC leadership team, the Camp OC Attendant will collaborate with Camp OC Instructors and Okanagan College Support Staff to ensure the smooth operation of Camp OC, a summer day camp program for children and youth aged 5-17 (K-12). As part of a close and collaborative team, the Camp Attendant is responsible for ensuring a fun camp experience for youth at Camp OC and helping maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment aligning with Okanagan College’s Inspire plan.

Functions and Duties

  • Follows established First Aid, Safety and Operational procedures and protocols.

  • Ensures that the campers’ activities are carried out in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment.

  • Supervises OC Summer Camp children and youth (campers) aged 5-17 (K-12).

  • Assists with day-to-day activities and tasks related to the operation of Camp OC, such as classroom and student support, cleanliness of space and equipment, assist with the organization of supplies and materials etc.

  • Interacts with campers and parents, as well as with the instructors and other Camp OC staff.

  • Communicates and documents any important information as it relates to the campers and exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality.

  • Supervises and carry out games and activities in the After Camp Care program (not offered at all campuses), including sign in and out procedure as well as follows set protocols in case of an emergency.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of Grade 12

  • Related post-secondary education an asset. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

  • Over 1 year experience working with school aged children and youth (K-12).

  • Must submit a clear Criminal Record Check for children and vulnerable adults and have current First Aid certification or complete First Aid course provided during onboarding.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, and able to take initiative with limited supervision/direction.

  • Must possess patience and empathy to help foster a supportive and accepting environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement and discretion when handling confidential information.

  • Must be flexible, detail-oriented and able to manage high work volume and conflicting priorities to meet deadlines

  • Demonstrates a keen ability to recognize potential safety hazards and ensure a safe and secure environment for children.

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and use critical thinking skills.

  • Strong use of active listening skills to ensure clear communication and address concerns effectively.

  • Sense of humor and natural ability to engage and entertain children.
