Current opportunity

The Business Transformation team is seeking a Senior Accounting Analyst for a two-year term. This position will work with service providers, external stakeholders, and internal partners to manage and ensure optimization of financial systems and business processes. The position has a ministry-wide perspective aimed at improving both efficiency and effectiveness through well designed financial processes and internal controls. You will be involved in the successful implementation of major and complex projects intended to increase the functionality of the ministry’s financial payment systems, implement policy and operational changes, as well as new program development.

Responsibilities will include

  • Working with senior management to problem solve and deliver on operational process improvements for enhanced consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness in meeting client’s needs.
  • Working to identify potential gaps in authorities or financial policies and resolving them through writing, directing, or assisting with policy development.
  • Leading the establishment of an internal audit framework for the ministry.
  • Using collected data and information to develop interim processes to mitigate financial risk and recommending long-term solutions.
  • Ensuring appropriate legislative, regulatory, and government/ministry financial policies are in place within systems and processes.
  • Identifying financial system training needs to develop training materials and programs for staff.

You will have the ability to

  • Provide technical expertise from a financial perspective on IT projects through support, analysis, development, and testing.
  • Analyze data, identify errors/issues, and provide solutions for the ministry’s financial payment systems.
  • Research, design, and implement data analysis and accountability framework.
  • Provide verbal, written and listening skills to comprehend and communicate complex and specialized information and ideas.
  • Build and foster relationships with ministry staff, IT service providers, external stakeholders, IT system contractors, and personnel across all government ministries.

You will have knowledge of

Ministry programs, policies, business processes, systems, and financial standards. This will be used to create process and risk mitigation frameworks. The qualified candidate will possess a degree in commerce or business administration supplemented with related experience. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation will be considered an asset.
