Senior Civil/Structural Engineer - Transmission Stations
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds 08
Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00
What you'll do
The Transmission Stations Division is anticipating a number of exciting major projects which includes the construction of
new Indoor and Outdoor Substations along with the expansion of existing ones within BC Hydro’s Transmission system.
We currently have a challenging and exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer in the Stations Division. The
individual shall be a Professional Engineer registered with EGBC. The successful candidate will be responsible for
producing civil/structural designs related primarily to electrical substation work. The work will be in a multi-discipline team
environment requiring coordination and collaboration to ensure successful project completion. Stations Civil Design would
include the use of Advanced Design Tools to create 3D models in close collaboration with other disciplines as part of this
work.
Specific Duties:
- Structural design, analysis and detailing for Concrete, Steel, Masonry and Timber structures associated with Electrical
Substations such as:
-
Control and Feeder buildings
-
Electrical equipment (Transformers, Circuit Breakers, etc.) supports and foundations
-
Transmission line termination structures and foundations
-
Concrete manholes/vaults, cable trenches and cable duct banks
-
Modification, repair and upgrade of existing substation structures
-
Seismic analysis and design of substation structures
-
Civil design, analysis and detailing for substation site development such as:
-
Station site preparation
-
Station access road
-
Retaining walls
-
Site drainage, culverts and ditches
-
Oil spill catchment and containment systems
-
Manage civil/structural engineering assignments which include the preparation of drawings, reports and technical
specification
- Prepare engineering design budget
- Provide construction support and conduct field review
- Perform civil/structural condition assessment of existing electrical switchyard facilities
- Conduct design check and review
- Act as BC Hydro's "Owner's Engineer" by reviewing and commenting on the work of external service providers to ensure
designs comply to BC Hydro Engineering Standards, Design Codes, accepted engineering practices and constructability
criteria
- Provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to junior staff
What you bring
- Civil Engineering degree recognized by Canadian Universities and EGBC
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC
(EGBC)
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive and comprehensive design experience in the Civil/Structural engineering field
- Technical experience in civil/structural engineering design relevant to electrical utility power system
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft PowerPoint
- Proficiency with the use of drawing markup tools, such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, BlueBeam and Autodesk Design Review.
- Ability to use standard industry Structural design/analysis software (such as SAP2000, S-Concrete and S-Foundation,
etc.)
- Knowledge in the use of 3D design software will be considered an asset, such as CIVIL3D, REVIT, INVENTOR and
INFRAWORKS
The successful candidate shall be able to demonstrate the following:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills including technical report writing and presentation skills
- Successful undertaking of multiple engineering assignments simultaneously
- A self-starter with initiative and good problem-solving skills
- A team player with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
