About the role

Do you have experience in contract management, park and site planning, design, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), paired with excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication skills? If so, we want you on our Parks Services Team!

As the successful candidate you will be responsible for assisting in the planning, design, preparation, and implementation of development plans for parks and recreation facilities in the Regional District of Central Okanagan. This position will assist in the development, maintenance and experience of the regional parks.

You will:

  • Develop design drawings, details, technical specifications, schedule of quantities and cost estimates for tendering and implementation.

  • Perform construction contract administration and supervision of various park projects.

  • Complete park asset inventories using GPS.

  • Track and update park signage inventory.

  • Create and install, with contractors as applicable, parktrail wayfinding, regulatory, and non-personal interpretive displays in accordance with Park Standards and Guidelines.

  • Assist and provide recommendations towards the preparation of park development and management plans, such as:

  • Research and analysis

  • Preparation of park concept plans

  • Cost estimating and implementation

  • Assist in the coordination of community consultation processes related to park planning and development projects.

  • Assist in the collection, analyzing, and maintenance of digital spatial data and files for the operation of parks and trails, production of GIS maps, and organization and administration of ecological, planning, development and operational inventory data and files.

  • Assist in the presentation of park development and management plans to RDCO staff, members of the public and elected officials.

  • Assist in the maintenance of the Parks Geographic Information System (GIS) database of all park properties, infrastructure, and ecosystems.

  • Complete digital mapping requests from internal and external clients.

  • Support, including completing minor construction, for a range of facilities renovations and construction projects.

  • Assist in development application referral reviews for conformance with current legislation and policy (internal and external) and provide recommendations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

As the ideal candidate, you will have a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related site planning discipline, as well as two years of experience in park and site planning and design.

You will have demonstrated training in Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You will also have skills in contract management, experience using traditional and GPS inventory, the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, and competence in operating minor construction tools.

This is a CUPE 338 position that will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with an hourly rate of $41.56 per hour.
