THE ROLE A rapidly growing, globally recognized sports-fashion retailer is seeking a Junior Accountant to join its Finance team in Vancouver to help with their holiday volume. This organization partners with some of the world’s most iconic athletic and lifestyle brands and is in an exciting phase of growth across Canada.
Reporting to the Accounts Payable Lead, this role is ideal for a detail-oriented and motivated accounting professional early in their career who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in accounts payable operations while gaining exposure to broader accounting and finance functions.
Responsibilities
- Review, code, and process a high volume of invoices in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships by responding to inquiries, reconciling statements, and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Assist with weekly payment runs, including cheques, wire transfers, and electronic payments.
- Perform regular bank deposit runs and ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of cash and cheque deposits.
- Review and manage corporate credit card transactions and employee expense reports, ensuring appropriate documentation, approval, and coding.
- Support month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Assist with tax compliance requirements, including GST/PST remittances and related filings.
- Support monthly depreciation schedules across various cost centers.
- Identify and assist in implementing improvements to accounts payable processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as required.
- Collaborate with the broader finance team to support additional accounting functions as needed.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within accounts payable or a retail environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., XLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables).
- Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite experience is considered an asset.
- Highly detail-oriented with the ability to meet tight deadlines in a high-volume environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for internal and external stakeholder interaction.
- Experience or exposure to the retail, apparel, or footwear industry is considered an asset.
- French language skills are considered an asset.
