About the role

We are seeking a skilled and passionate WordPress Developer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in web development and a deep understanding of WordPress, along with experience in various programming languages and frameworks. You will support enhancements to our College website. The ideal candidate has a strong attention to detail, balanced by a creative eye for design and a deep understanding of the customer's journey. We want someone who will not only polish and refine what exists but also bring forward innovative ideas, dynamic widgets, and engaging functionality that elevate our online presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refine and customize page layouts to align with brand standards and audience expectations
  • Design and implement dynamic, user-friendly widgets and features to enhance engagement
  • Optimize for responsiveness, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Improve site performance, loading speed, and SEO best practices
  • Ensure consistent branding across pages (fonts, images, icons, messaging)
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide creative solutions for site improvements
  • Collaborate with our internal marketing/communications team on design and content alignment
  • Offer recommendations on plugins, integrations, and design features to improve usability and visual appeal

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a WordPress designer/developer with a strong portfolio of completed projects
  • Expertise with WordPress themes, plugins, page builders (e.g., Elementor, WPBakery, Divi, or Gutenberg), and custom CSS/HTML
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design principles and a strong sense of visual design
  • Ability to create mobile-friendly, responsive designs
  • Solid understanding of SEO, analytics, and site optimization
  • Experience with security best practices and maintaining website stability
  • Strong communication skills, proactive problem-solving, and a collaborative mindset
  • Experience with video and photo selection and treatments
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks independently

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with schools, education, or non-profit websites
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CRM or form integration (Blackbaud, Calendly, Gravity Forms)

Details:

  • Type: Freelance
  • Location: Remote, with in person check-ins with our team if possible (located in Hamilton, ON)
  • Timeline: Project-based, with potential for ongoing work
  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience
