About the role
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Power System Protection & Control Engineer to support the design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of protection and control solutions for utility, transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems. The successful candidate will work on substation automation projects, protection engineering studies, relay programming, and customer-facing technical activities.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver protection and control solutions for electrical generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial systems. Perform power system studies including short circuit analysis, load flow studies, grounding analysis, arc flash studies, protective device coordination, and insulation coordination. Develop and configure relay settings, protection logic, control schemes, and communication settings for GE and third-party protective relays. Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. Prepare test plans, technical documentation, engineering reports, and customer deliverables. Collaborate with engineering teams and customers to identify technical requirements and support project execution. Assist with engineering estimates, proposals, and statements of work.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with a focus on Power Systems. 5+ years of experience in power system protection, electrical studies, or substation engineering. Strong understanding of power system analysis, fault calculations, symmetrical components, and protection principles. Experience with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, CAPE, MATLAB, Mathcad, CDEGS, WinIGS, or similar. Knowledge of substation communication protocols including IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus. Experience with protection relay testing, commissioning, and equipment such as Doble, Omicron, or equivalent. Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering teams and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering (PE) certification is a plus. Experience with utility-scale power systems, substation automation, and protection projects.
