Vacancy Announcement - Accountant
The Pacific Salmon Commission (PSC), an international organization responsible for transboundary salmon fisheries management in Canada and the United States, is seeking an Accountant for a one-year term (parental leave coverage).
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Accountant works closely with PSC’s Senior Accountant and is responsible for the duties outlined below.
Major duties and responsibilities:
• Accounting Month-end/Quarter-end:
- Standard journal entries re: expense accruals, prepaids, corrections
- Adjusting journal entries
- Maintaining the capital assets register
- Monthly Visa reconciliation and expense allocation
- Reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts
- GST/ PST returns
- Petty cash reconciliation
- Reconciliation of Endowment Funds investments
- Preparing monthly schedule of investment management fees (Endowment Funds)
• Year-end:
- Updating leadsheets from trial balance
- Preparing working papers and supporting documentations
- Preparing PSC and its subsidiaries’ non-consolidated financial statements
- Providing variance analyses as requested from auditors, and respond to auditors’ inquiries
- Preparing schedule of annual travel and meeting costs
• Banking:
- Bank deposits and related journal entries
- Bank reconciliations
• HR:
- Updating HR system based on timesheets submitted by staff
- Handling PSC cell phone related tasks
• Payroll
- Preparation of semi-monthly/ bi-weekly payroll and remittance of statutory deduction
- Preparation of T4, T4A, ROE
• Accounts Payable:
- Processing invoices (coding, entering in accounting system)
- Matching invoices to supporting documentation
- Producing cheques and EFT’s
- Reconciling vendor statements
- Communicating with vendors to coordinate payment
- Maintaining electronic filing system for AP vendors
• Accounts Receivable:
- Preparing invoices
- Reconciling A/R accounts
• Import and update annual budgets in accounting system
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• Diploma/ Degree in Accounting
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Excel/ MS Office
• 1-2 years hands on accounting experience
• Strong attention to detail

Salary and Benefits:
Salary: $66,982/year – $93,965/year CAD which corresponds to the Canadian Public Service classification of CT-FIN-01. Starting salary will be commensurate with skills and experience, noting that generally staff are started at the lowest portion of this range.
The successful candidate will receive a full benefits package including defined benefit pension plan, extended health and dental care, and life and disability insurance. Members of the Canadian Federal Public Service may transfer all pensionable service to the PSC pension plan, and vice-versa. This job is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada. Teleworking may be permitted in certain circumstances, as determined by operational requirements, and approved by management.
