This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

This position is part-time and has an initial appointment of 4 months. The salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff Agreement.

Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at Grande Prairie, AB.

The Faculty of Education invites applications for part-time Academic Teaching Staff to teach the following courses in the Winter 2026 term. These courses are taught in-person and are part of the Teacher Education North program, located in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Please indicate the specific course(s) you are applying to teach in your application.

EDEL 302 - Curriculum and Pedagogy in Elementary School Art

This course provides an introduction to visual arts education for elementary schools. It is comprised of lectures, discussions, audio visual presentations, and hands-on media experiences. No visual arts background is necessary.

EDEL 330 - Curriculum and Pedagogy in Elementary School Science

This course provides an introduction to teaching elementary children about science and 'design and make' technology. Such themes as children's learning, science/technology/society connections, the Alberta program, planning and instruction and assessing children's progress will be explored.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant will hold a Master's Degree (minimum, PhD preferred) in education or a related field, with at least one graduate course in the specific curricular subject area, or related experience such as leadership experience in the subject area at the K-9 level in a school district.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of practices to ensure access, foster community connections, and increase belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong K-12 classroom teaching background and demonstrated teaching excellence.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate education courses, including serving as a teaching assistant.
  • Strong organization and communication skills. Familiarity and facility with online teaching platforms such as Moodle, Canvas, D2L, etc.
