About Us

The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) is one of six academic units in the Faculty of Engineering. The School of Biomedical Engineering at Western promotes the cooperative involvement of clinical and basic researchers in disciplines including biomaterials, biomechanics, mechatronics and imaging. Our programs encourage multidisciplinary links between Western Engineering, Health Sciences, and Science; the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Robarts Research Institute, Lawson Health Research Institute and teaching hospitals at Western University.

Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator provides administrative support for the development and implementation of Western's newly funded NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program in Engineering Health Equity. The program will significantly expand the intensity and impact of research at Western dedicated to development of frugal biomedical devices designed to meet the needs of people living in low-resource settings in Canada and Africa. The program will deliver innovative education in the technical and non-technical aspects of frugal biomedical innovation to undergraduate and graduate students and will establish and sustain a continuously evolving learning community that will engage faculty mentors, trainees, and external partners. The program will provide stipend support and research-intensive training to 35 graduate and 25 undergraduate students over six years. The program will organize and fund mobility opportunities for field research in Northern Canada or sub-Saharan Africa for each of its graduate-level trainees.

The Program Coordinator will provide administrative support to the Program Director and Operations Committee with processing trainee applications, monitoring trainees’ progress through the program, and responding to inquiries from program participants. The incumbent will provide administrative support with organizing graduate trainees’ mobility experiences, including assisting with trainees’ travel and housing logistics and processing trainees’ expense reimbursements ( Five to ten graduate trainees will participate in mobility experiences in each year_. The incumbent will also provide administrative support with reviewing budgets and tracking and approving expenditures according to the budget plan and maintain the program’s website.

Qualifications

Education:

  • College Diploma in Busines Management/Administration or related discipline, Undergraduate Degree preferrred

Experience:

  • 1 year of administrative experience in an office environment

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Familiarity with financial records management
  • Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
  • Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
  • Ability to foster collaboration and respect among team members
  • Communication skills with confidence interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
  • Results-oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of individual and team performance
