HOURS OF WORK:
The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Acute and Chronic illnesses have significant effect on individuals and their families. Nutrition, feeding and eating issues are often impacted in paediatric illnesses. The Registered Dietitian provides service to patients and their families focusing primarily on the nutritional needs of individuals and treatment appropriate to their illness state and supports health improvement. The Registered Dietitian is an expert in nutrition and translates that science for treatment involving food, eating and feeding behaviours and the pathophysiology related to digestion, absorption and utilization of nutrients in the body. The Registered Dietitian conducts specialized nutritional assessments and implements a range of treatment modalities, provides information, consultation, and education on nutritional issues relating to infant, child and teen growth, lifestyle behaviour change, childhood obesity, and feeding disorders. The Registered Dietitian is an educational resource to patients, families, staff and community agencies. The Registered Dietitian practices in accordance with the Professional Standards of the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
The Registered Dietitian will work collaboratively with the PHIT team members: Paediatrician, Nurse Practitioner, Social Work, Psychology, Exercise Specialist, Registered Nurse, and the entire inter-professional Women’s and Children’s team to provide comprehensive nutritional care and support for PHIT patients and their families and other POP clinic patients and families within the Women’s and Children’s portfolio, throughout the continuum of care. This position has specific responsibilities for providing specialized nutritional care and expertise to support to patients and families enrolled in the Personal Health Improvement Team (PHIT), and the Feeding and Nutrition Clinic. The role must work collaboratively with team members, to provide care for PHIT patients and families, which meet the provincial mandates and accountabilities for paediatric obesity treatment services.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. – Required
- Excellent knowledge of, and experience within the health care system, particularly related to paediatric assessment, and treatment of child and adolescent obesity, selective eaters, failure to thrive, feeding issues, feeding behavior problems, eating disorder, inborn error of metabolism
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical/nutrition guidelines appropriate for children from birth to age 18
- Demonstrated knowledge of disease entities, anatomy, medication and their effects on physiology and laboratory data to assess, develop, implement and evaluate client-specific health care plans
- Demonstrated knowledge of family-based approach guiding principles and facilitation skills.
- Three years’ clinical experience in management of paediatric patients and families required.
- Three years’ experience in a health care setting preferred.
