Brockville, ON
Mid Level

About the role

Join The Upper Canada District School Board

Creating Futures, Leading and Learning for All

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) is committed to equity in employment. As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to establishing a qualified workforce that is reflective of the diverse population we serve. The UCDSB is committed to providing accommodations [for people with disabilities]. If you require an accommodation, we will work with you to meet your needs. This would be facilitated upon receiving an interview and would be done by contacting Human Resources at .

Applications are now being accepted for the Occasional Teacher's List. Successful candidates will receive day-to-day teaching assignments through our occasional teacher call out system for schools selected within the UCDSB. Please visit www.ucdsb.on.ca to view a copy of our Board map which will show you where our schools are located. As an occasional teacher, you are not expected to travel to every school. You choose the locations where you are willing to travel to upon hire.

Note: Applications are not being accepted for virtual teaching assignments.

Joining the UCDSB in an occasional capacity is a great way to gain experience for those looking to obtain a long-term occasional and/or permanent position with UCDSB. You can, however, apply directly to long-term occasional and permanent positions even if you are not currently on the occasional list.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • OCT in Good Standing (if you have applied for your OCT, are on a temporary OCT certificate, or are a teacher candidate and graduating soon, you are welcome to apply now)

Application:

Your completed application on Apply to Education must include the following:

  • Current cover letter.
  • Current resume.
  • Current Applicant Profile including contact information.
  • Complete responses to the job posting questions.

You may also wish to attach relevant diplomas, certifications, reference letters, etc. relevant to your application.

What comes next?

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by our HR Department via the email provided in Apply to Education. These candidates will be invited to attend a virtual live interview via Microsoft Teams. Interviews are typically conducted by two (2) Principals/Vice Principals. Candidates are encouraged to provide answers to interview questions that demonstrate their skills and abilities by providing actual examples of where they have been engaged in the respective work.

Candidates will be shortlisted based on school preferences, specific qualifications, and/or availability. Both our Elementary and Secondary Occasional Teacher's lists have a maximum number of teachers we can have on those lists which means the UCDSB must be strategic in the candidates selected for interview. We must hire based on the greatest area of need at any given time which can and does change regularly.

Upon successful interview, our HR Department will reach out to the candidate with details on the next step in the recruitment process; references.

The UCDSB selection process includes a review of required qualifications, an interview and assessment process, and reference checks. All employment offers are conditional on candidates providing a satisfactory to the Board criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.

As an FYI only at this stage in the process regarding references:

UCDSB requires your current and most recent direct supervisors, where applicable. If you have or are currently working for another School Board, we will require a reference from your Principal/Supervisor.

If your experience is in a day-to-day occasional teaching capacity, ensure that you list the length of time that you worked for that Supervisor and whether the assignment was casual day-to-day or in a long-term occasional capacity.

If providing a placement teacher as a reference, the UCDSB will require approval from the Principal at the placement school in order to defer the reference to that placement teacher.

The UCDSB does not accept colleagues as references nor does it accept personal references.
