Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and forward thinking Science and Design Teacher (Grades 5-8) in our Upper Elementary division. The successful candidate will join our dynamic IB community for the upcoming September 2026 - June 2027 school year for a 10-month full time contract position. The successful candidate will foster a joyful, engaging, and academically rich environment grounded in IB philosophy and practice. This is an opportunity for an educator who values child-centered learning, independence, curiosity, and community building. The ideal candidate is warm, organized, and committed to supporting the holistic development of each child.
Key Responsibilities
● Prepare and maintain an authentic IB Upper Elementary environment ● Deliver engaging lessons that satisfy both Ontario Curriculum expectations and IB standards for both Science (3 sessions per week) and Design (2 session per week) ● Observe students carefully and maintain accurate academic and developmental records ● Support individualized learning plans and foster student independence ● Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues ● Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom life ● Collaborate with faculty on curriculum planning, student support, and school initiatives ● Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school events, and community activities ● Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment aligned with the school’s values
Qualifications
● Ontario College of Teachers certification ● IB certification of at least Category 1 in Science and/or design, or a willingness to complete required IB training (paid by the school) within the first year of employment ● Additional Qualification Courses in any stream is considered an asset ● Minimum 3 years of teaching experience preferred ● Strong understanding of child development ● Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills ● Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful community engagement ● Current Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one
