Career Opportunity

This position will assist with the supervision and leadership of the Substation & Power Control section. This involves project management activities, administrative duties, program development, ensuring subordinates are properly trained, along with other responsibilities as necessary. You will supervise day-to-day activities related to the work in the section (e.g., inspection, installation, rehabilitation, maintenance, construction, equipment repairs, and other systems in the transit tunnels, stations, buildings, and properties). The role may be responsible for the financial control and reporting for capital projects.

What You Will Do

  • Plan, coordinate, and generally supervise work and staff in the section.

  • Create plans and procedures to identify work needed (i.e., to identify all warrantable repairs and the associated work) and implement.

  • Plan, organize, supervise, and direct the activities relating to work or project; and make recommendations regarding adjustments to work as needed.

  • Address environmental, safety, and other compliance issues related to operations in the Department and/or Section.

  • Review and analyze data, information, procedures, or other methods; make recommendations and/or document as necessary.

  • Review systems, processes, and/or documents (e.g., procedures, reports, contracts) to ensure work is conducted up to standard and in the best interests of the TTC.

  • Develop and administer standards to ensure efficiency, quality of work, safety, and effective performance.

  • Prepare, monitor, and update Capital and Operating budgets, goals, and objectives.

  • Inspect equipment or systems (electrical, technical, structural), test, and fix as necessary.

  • Will perform related duties as assigned

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical/Electronic Technology) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Several years of directly related work experience.
  • A valid Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician - Construction & Maintenance (309A)
  • Sound knowledge of electrical/electronic principles as well as maintenance, repair, installation, testing and inspection methods and procedures as they relate to traction power, power distribution, computer equipment, electronic testing equipment and other associated equipment.
  • Good knowledge of human relations concepts/practices; understanding of pertinent human resources policies and legislation/regulations regarding safety, employment, human rights; good understanding of federal and provincial government CSA and ISO quality standards applicable to power generation and distribution.
  • Familiarity with budgeting procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of project planning/management concepts and financial reporting.
  • Possess good supervisory, administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Require the ability to motivate subordinates and effectively plan, supervise and co-ordinate the activities of others in order to accomplish objectives.
  • The incumbent will be required to complete various courses in effective supervision and other technical courses related to the section's activities. The incumbent will also be required to complete training in the appropriate sections of the Subway/RT Rule Book, WHMIS, Confined Space Entry certification and must be able to gain certification for entry into Toronto Hydro Substations/chambers/vaults etc.
