- 10+ years of progressive engineering experience; 4+ years managing teams
- Recent experience with building 2-sided marketplaces or consumer focused applications is preferred
- Experience building loyalty programs, experimentation platforms, dynamic pricing capabilities, recommendation engines, or B2B partner integrations
- Proven impact at a startup that illustrates the ability to set a vision and systems-level thinking
- Experience with architecting and developing large scale, service-oriented systems, and optimizing for performance and quality
- Technical ability to run code reviews, hire all levels of developers, and scale an engineering organization
- Deep understanding of leading an engineering team through the SDLC including initiation, requirements gathering, analysis and design, development tools and technologies, release and version control, contemporary testing methodologies, and deployment management
What the job involves
- We’re seeking an operationally minded VP of Engineering to lead all aspects of software engineering, security and data
- This critical role reports directly to the CEO and will be instrumental in building and nurturing a thriving remote-first culture as the company scales
- The VP Engineering will be responsible for setting the culture and cadence for the engineering team, fostering a strong culture, increasing product velocity, and achieving schedule predictability as the company moves forward with their growth targets
- Understand the current product vision as laid-out by the Executive Team, and utilize strong technical assets and knowledge to generate the tech that best serves both the company’s immediate needs as well as our 2-5 year goals
- Technical leadership is a heavily weighted portion of this position, including the technology infrastructure, architecture, design, code review, testing, and maintenance efforts with a focus on optimizing for performance and scalability
- VP of Engineering’s team management expertise, leadership and mentoring of teams will be of equal importance. This role is tasked to lead and scale a team of skilled engineers. Recruiting, hiring, and developing an incredible technology team will be key to the success of the position
- Lead the development of the marketplace product across the full application stack in collaboration with cross functional partners and own the devops systems that enable it
- Manage trade-offs and prioritize engineering efforts based on time, cost, and quality by factoring in business needs
- Serve as the company’s foremost technical subject matter expert by maintaining knowledge of existing and emerging technologies
