Company DescriptionFerrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.What is the project?A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).Stations:One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).The benefits to OntarioFaster, more frequent, and reliable access to rapid transit with more than 227,500 people will live within a 10-minute walk of an Ontario Line station.Improve the quality of life for commuters by reducing daily travel time.Reduce crowding on the existing Line 1 (Yonge-University) subway.Up to 57,000 more jobs accessible by transit (in 45 minutes or less) for Toronto residents.Economic and community growth along the future transit line and thousands of job opportunities annually during construction.Reduction in traffic congestion, greenhouse gases, and fuel consumption by providing an alternative transportation option.   Job DescriptionThe TBM Mechanical Foreman leads and supervises mechanical works for SEM and tunneling operations, ensuring safe, efficient installation and maintenance of equipment. This role is responsible for coordinating with project teams to align schedules, enforce quality standards, and manage resources. Additionally, they safety compliance, conduct inspections, and resolve mechanical issues to keep tunneling activities on track.Key Responsibilities: Mechanical SupervisionOversee the installation, maintenance, and operation of mechanical equipment related to SEM & tunneling activities.Ensure that all mechanical works are carried out safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications. Project CoordinationCollaborate with engineers, site managers, and other trades to coordinate mechanical works within the overall tunneling schedule.Ensure that mechanical activities do not impede other aspects of the tunneling process. Quality ControlImplement quality control procedures to ensure that all mechanical work meets project standards and specifications.Regularly inspect mechanical installations and repairs to maintain high-quality workmanship. Safety ManagementEnsure compliance with all safety regulations and best practices. Conduct regular safety briefings and ensure that all mechanical workers are properly trained and equipped to perform their duties safely. Resource ManagementManage the allocation of mechanical resources, including personnel, tools, and materials.Ensure that the required resources are available on-site when needed and that any issues are promptly addressed. ReportingMaintain detailed records of mechanical works, including daily logs, equipment usage, and maintenance records.Provide regular updates to the project management team on the status of mechanical activities. Problem SolvingAddress any mechanical issues or challenges that arise during tunneling operations. Work with the engineering team to develop solutions that minimize disruptions and maintain progress. Equipment ManagementOversee the maintenance, repair, and proper operation of all mechanical equipment used in SEM & tunneling.Coordinate with the equipment manager to ensure that machinery is in optimal working condition. QualificationsMinimum of 7-10 years of experience in mechanical work within the construction industry, with specific experience in tunneling or underground construction preferred. Proven track record in a supervisory role, with strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a team of mechanical workers. Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, and blueprints. Strong knowledge of SEM tunneling processes and the mechanical systems involved. Deep understanding of safety regulations and best practices, particularly in the context of tunneling and underground construction. Ontario Transit Group (OTG) is a joint venture between Ferrovial Construction and Vinci Construction Grands Projets (through their subsidiary JANIN ATLAS) to design, build and deliver the Ontario Line Subway - Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel work for Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario. The south section of the line will join Exhibition Place to the Don Yard portal.

Scope of work for the Ontario Line South Civil design-build-finance package includes:

  • A six-kilometre tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)

  • Groundworks required to build the tunnels and stations; utility and conduit works to prepare for the Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) mechanical and electrical systems; guideway structures and facilities to prepare for the track structure to be installed by the RSSOM contractor.

  • Stations: One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station. Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations. Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

When completed with the northern section of the Ontario Line, the new subway line will be a 15.6-kilometre subway line with 15 new stations to the and will connect Exhibition Place all the way to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT at Don Mills Road.
