With customers across USA, Europe and Australia, we’re looking to rapidly scale our product offering and production capabilities.
Based at Alcon's recently acquired subsidiary Cylite in Melbourne, this role will define and own all maintenance activities for the on-site production line. They will work closely with Production as well as the Equipment, Automation, and Design Engineering teams to ensure that equipment upgrades are introduced and verified in a timely manner and that production operational schedules can be maintained.
As the first hire in this newly created team this role will play a pivotal role in shaping maintenance practices and ensuring equipment uptime as the site transitions from development to volume manufacturing.
Main Duties
Equipment Maintenance and Servicing
- Develop preventative maintenance, calibration and servicing strategy for production equipment.
- Develop maintenance, calibration, and servicing procedures.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute equipment and facility calibration, preventative maintenance, and servicing.
- Audit production equipment to ensure that workstations are always safe and functional.
- Where equipment failures occur on the production line, troubleshoot existing equipment by independently undertaking fault-finding investigations. Develop corrective actions to prevent against recurrences.
- Identify tooling and spare part requirements to support production line maintenance and mitigate against key component failures. Coordinate the supplier identification, order request and stock keeping of components and tools for automation support.
Support Introduction of New Equipment
- Collaborate with design colleagues on the design of workstations and complex tools considering ongoing assembly and maintenance aspects. Perform engineering review of proposed new equipment designs to assess reliability, ease of maintenance, and availability of replacement parts.
- Working collaboratively with Automation and Equipment Engineers, perform mechanical assembly, electrical wiring installation, and commissioning per documented design information and service manuals for industrial equipment used in a medical device production line.
Support Production
- Assist with the Installation and configuration of software onto production computers and test instruments in the production area.
- Perform general mechanical work as required to facilitate assembly of components.
- Liaise with production staff to coordinate repair work, statutory safety inspections and supply of new plant and equipment with production schedules.
- Organise, participate and lead continuous improvement activities such as kaizens.
Documentation
- Operate effectively within our QMS with regards to the maintenance of equipment documentation and records; create or improve existing manufacturing equipment documents and other technical documentation as required.
PREREQUISITES:
- Certificates, or Diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in equipment medical manufacturing industry
- Experience in maintenance supporting manufacturing production. Mechatronics, optics knowledge will be highly advantageous
- Strong technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Prior technical knowledge in mechatronics, PLC- troubleshooting
- Strong IT and computer skills. Ability to articulate, design and document procedures in English, and implement procedure.
- Looking for someone hands on – ready to roll up their sleeves and work on the actual production equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to take initiative and contribute in a team-based setting.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
- Proven ability to build strong working relationships with Operations Managers, Engineering Group Leaders, and functional teams.
