The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.
Job Information
Your position as Manager, Employment Standards is in Yellowknife and reports to the Director of Labour Development and Standards. You maybe required to travel up to 5 (five) days every other month.
Your responsibilities would include writing decisions, issuing orders and wage recovery under the Employment Standards Act. You would be responsible for overall planning, administration and evaluation of Employment Standards legislation, policy and programs in the Northwest Territories.
Your knowledge, skills and abilities should include:
- Knowledge of employment and labour legislation, industrial relations and human resources policy in the NWT and federally, and familiarity with legislation in other jurisdictions.
- Advanced knowledge of the NWT Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act and ability to interpret and apply it.
- Able to research and interpret labour case law and various payroll systems to provide a sound foundation when presenting decisions.
Typically attained by:
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a focus on Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management or other relevant discipline; Three (3) years' experience in Industrial Relations or Employment Standards; and Two (2) years' experience in a direct supervisory role.
Equivalencies:

A Diploma in Business Administration with a focus on Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management or other relevant discipline, Five (5) years' experience in Industrial relations or Employment Standards, and Two (2) years' experience in a direct supervisory role.

Other relevant disciplines would include Law/Legal Studies, Public Administration; and Sociology
