Orchard View Long Term Care is a modern 40-bed nursing home located in the scenic Village of Gagetown, centrally situated between Fredericton, Oromocto, and Saint John along the beautiful Saint John River. Position Overview
Reporting to the Administrator & CEO, the Director of Care (DOC) is responsible for the leadership, direction, and coordination of all nursing and resident care services. The DOC plays a key role on the senior leadership team, ensuring compliance with the Nursing Home Act, provincial standards, and organizational policies, while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and resident advocacy.
This is a leadership opportunity for a dynamic nurse leader who is passionate about delivering high-quality resident care, fostering teamwork, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight to all nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, PSWs/Resident Attendants, clerks, activation staff, and volunteers).
- Ensure resident care services meet or exceed provincial standards, with a focus on safety, dignity, and quality of life.
- Oversee resident assessments, care planning, infection prevention and control, medication management, and risk management.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and best practices for care delivery.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, physicians, families, and community partners to ensure seamless care.
- Lead recruitment, orientation, performance management, and ongoing professional development for care staff.
- Provide financial oversight of departmental budgets and resource utilization.
- Participate in inspections, accreditation, audits, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Share in the on-call leadership rotation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Nursing degree required.
- Active registration in good standing with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB) .
- Minimum 5 years of progressive nursing experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Experience with human resources and financial management in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Nursing Home Act, infection control, and clinical best practices.
- Commitment to resident-centred care, teamwork, and continuous learning.
- Long-term care experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
