Position: Teacher, Probationary: Technology, Mathematics & Sciences
Location: Niton Central School - Niton Junction, AB
Start Date: September 1, 2026, or upon mutually agreeable start date until June 29, 2027.
Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE Monday-Friday
The competition will remain open until: July 6, 2026 at 12:00pm MST
Niton Central School is located in Niton Junction, Alberta approximately 30 minutes east of Edson. Niton Central resides in the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division, an elementary and middle school providing excellent education to grades JK-9.
Role And Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a collaborative person with proficiency in the use of educational technology and have an understanding of assessment for learning. The responsibilities include:
Providing instruction to promote high quality student-centered learning. Designing and preparing lessons based on curriculum and following a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing students, including lectures, demonstrations and discussions. Facilitating inclusive educational practices to maximize educational opportunities for all students. Reviewing and evaluating each student's performance, knowledge and skills and meeting all reporting and assessment deadlines. Adhering to provincial legislation, board policy and division administrative procedures. Developing constructive relationships with parents. Modelling commitment to professional development. Teaching assignment is a split grade 7/8.
Preference would be for candidate to have Mathematics & Science background at a secondary level, however, the specified course load is flexible and may be adjusted based on teaching background and experience.
Requirements
The successful candidate will:
Possess an Alberta Teaching Certificate or be eligible for one. Have experience in following the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and infusing literacy across the curriculum. Hold a Bachelor’s degree of Education.

The Division also provides $725 per year for teachers to allocate within a Health and Wellness Spending Account.
Available Leaves
Personal leave of absence, 4 days per school year May accumulate up to 11 total personal leave days, see the Local ATA Collective Agreement for further details. Sick leave, up to 90 days leave Family Medical Leave, up to 3 days per school year Bereavement/Critical Care Leave Deferred Salary Leave Plan Northern Student Teacher Bursary
GYPSD is a participating School Division within the Northern Student Teacher Bursary.
