About the role
Main Responsibilities
- Member of a production support (7x24) team for a small number of mainframe applications; applications are COBOL, CICS, DB2, running online and a large nightly batch suite.
- The team provides top tier second line support to production systems.
- Calls for support are required for batch failures and online failures. Problems are investigated, analyzed and solutions provided.
- Solutions could include file or database patches, changes to JCL, emergency fixes to code.
- Participate in project implementation and monitor application health; provide support for user demos as part of implementation.
- Support project development teams during requirements and development, providing necessary understanding of data and existing processes.
- Support numerous external teams including data interfaces and user front ends.
- Applies deep knowledge of applications, data structures and code to provide high level of support.
- Utilize available tools, ensure standards are adhered to.
- Translates user needs into technical specifications by understanding, conceptualizing, and facilitating technical requirements from user.
- Analyzes, develops, tests, and implements new software programs, and documentation of entire software development life cycle execution.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and fault rectification of system and core software components.
- Ensures that code/configurations adhere to the security, logging, error handling, and performance standards and non-functional requirements.
- Evaluates new technologies for fit with the program/system/eco-system and the associated upstream and downstream impacts on process, data, and risk.
- Follows release management processes and standards, and applies version controls.
- Assists in interpreting and documentation of client requirements.
- Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
- Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
- Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

- Typically between 4 - 6 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
