The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for interested individuals to apply for the position of Skate Host at the Whistler Olympic Plaza Ice Rink (WOPIR). This position reports to the Recreation Services Supervisor and offers up to 20 hours bi-weekly, beginning on November 24, 2025, and continuing through the end of March 2026. The schedule varies and may consist of weekday shifts from 12:15 PM – 5:15 PM and nightly from 5:45 PM to 8:45 PM, and weekend shifts from 10:45 AM to 5:15 PM. Additional hours may be available during holiday periods.
The Skate Host’s primary role is to deliver excellent customer service experience in a pleasant, positive, and professional manner while controlling the use of the ice area; enforcing rules and regulations to ensure public safety; and providing skate rentals and helmets to guests. Skate Hosts are also responsible for the general upkeep and organization of the skate shop and lobby areas.
Qualified candidates will possess at minimum a valid first aid certification and a strong ability to ice skate. Preference will be given to applicants with previous guest service experience, and some knowledge of the resort community. Previous experience working in a recreation or arena setting is considered an asset.
The successful candidate is a professional, approachable, and helpful individual who is focused on customer service; can organize, prioritize and work well independently; and demonstrates the ability to interact effectively, courteously and professionally with the public. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team environment. The starting wage for this position is $22.45 an hour. In addition to the hourly wage, casual employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits.
