About the role

Purpose Of Position Reporting directly to the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacy Supervisor is accountable for supervising the daily operations of the pharmacy staff and department. The Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with the Ontario College of Pharmacists regulations and standards. Coordinates the work activities of the pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy supportive staff to ensure that all orders are dispensed correctly and efficiently. Participates in and leads organizational medication system transformation projects, as well as collaborating with the various stakeholders within the medication system. Areas of accountability include operations management related to staffing and service delivery, human resource management, financial management, quality assurance, leadership, and maintenance of professional practice.

Duties

  • Assists in supporting processes improvement initiatives and looks for opportunities to improve processes.
  • Proposes and implements ideas which support improved work procedures or increased quality/service.
  • Develops cooperative and productive team relationships within the department fostering a climate of teamwork, compassion, excellence and integrity.
  • Maintains necessary statistics and records.
  • Maintains regular communication with other departments.
  • Functions as a role model, demonstrates good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  • Assists with staff rounding.
  • Prioritizes workload in own area.
  • Supports shift to shift inter-professional collaboration to ensure quality and safety.
  • Reviews department metrics, communicates to staff, and develops action plans as required.
  • Identifies successes/achievements of team and provides recognition.
  • Responds to service issues and supports service improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Makes decisions that are focused on the shift and day to day operations.
  • Provides input into and assists the Manager with the delivery of departmental plans and projects.
  • Assists Manager with departmental communication.
  • Schedules staff, in collaboration with Workforce Planning department.
  • Ensures time cards are correct and complete in order to complete any payroll related function.
  • Develops, implements and conducts orientation, training and departmental education.
  • Makes resources available to support strategic initiatives, operational projects and process improvements.
  • Orders supplies for department operations in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Manages shift to shift utilization of resources (human and material) in the department, including assessing workload of team and ensuring staff are taking required breaks
  • Contributes to department budget development, execution and monthly variance actions.
  • Follows up on employee engagement results as needed.
  • Ensures knowledge of collective agreements, adherence as required and ongoing collaboration with union partners to foster strong labour relations and positive relationships.
  • Assume any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma/certificate in related field
  • Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • 1 year experience in a healthcare related field

  • Ability to work independently, think creatively, take initiative and manage own time to perform the duties of the position.
  • Displays strong initiative and can establish personal goals and take responsibility for meeting them within defined timeline.
  • Ability to compile schedules and prepare work assignments in accordance with organizational policies, and interpret and apply Collective Agreements language.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Microsoft environment. Experience with Meditech preferred.
  • Demonstrates reliability and accountability in day to day work.

SAH provides primary, secondary and select tertiary services to a total catchment population of approximately 115,000 residents in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma.
