About the role
Reporting to the Plant Manager – Liquid Fertilizer, the Operations Summer Student will be responsible for assisting with the smooth day-to-day operations and logistics of our high-end liquid fertilizer facility located northwest of Wilkie, SK (Thackeray). This position assists with the safe transfer of liquid fertilizer, general equipment and yard maintenance, and coordination with retail locations and the custom applications team. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience in agriculture operations while contributing to the efficiency and safety of the facility.
Position Responsibilities**:**
- Assist with the transfer of incoming and outgoing liquid fertilizer
- Support the operation and basic maintenance of transfer pumps and related equipment
- Help coordinate inbound and outbound shipments with retail divisions and the custom application team
- Assist in unloading railcars following established company procedures
- Perform general yard and equipment maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep
- Follow all safety regulations, protocols, and procedures at all times
- Support accurate inventory tracking and data entry
- Perform other operational duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Interest in agriculture, operations, logistics, or related fields
- Previous experience in the agriculture industry is an asset but not required
- Strong understanding-or willingness to learn-safety procedures in an industrial/agriculture setting
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons
- Comfortable working at heights and outdoors in variable weather conditions
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to reliable transportation
- Must live in or close to the town of Wilkie SK
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to learn troubleshooting of minor equipment issues
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with appropriate guidance
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with inventory systems is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high facility and equipment standards
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with team members
