Your Opportunity
Under the limited supervision of the Campus Administrator, the Campus Student Life Coordinator coordinates a series of recreational opportunities to encourage the physical, social and mental wellbeing of students; oversees the fitness facilities ensuring safety and accessibility for all, coordinates the hiring of student staff, coordinates student training and scheduling, monitors student performance, prepares and distributes facility schedules; prepares external facility booking contracts; coordinates the preparation of promotional material; maintains databases and tracking of activities and events; participates in all types of recreational activities; represents the department at College initiated meetings, functions and special events; and acts as the First Aid attendant for the facilities.
Functions and Duties
Campus Life Activities

Plans, coordinates, delivers and evaluates informal and formal campus student life activities and events that contribute to student development and success.

Determines student needs, initiates and coordinates all facets of campus student life events including coordinating venue bookings, IT/AV and facilities requests, hiring student staff as needed, organizing food and other event specific items.

Prepares and tracks budgets and fees for campus student life activities and events and recreational and fitness programs. Reports on revenue and expenses as required and works within budget constraints. Ensures that invoices and financial information is processed in a timely manner. Reconciles credit card expenditures.

Sets up systems each semester to ensure accurate registration and collection of recreational and fitness fees.

Liaise with student union and college departments and provide support in the delivery of their student activities and programs.

Request marketing and advertising assets of campus student life events and activities through a variety of media including posters, TV monitors and social media, including updating the TV monitors.

Engages with the community and external stakeholders for support of campus student life programs and activities and sponsorships.

Responds to inquiries about recreational programs, campus student life events and Intercollegiate athletic opportunities

Maintains and monitors First Aid supply areas for Fitness Centre.
Fitness Facilities
10. Coordinates the hiring of student staff. Supports student interviews, employee selection, training, scheduling, submission of timesheets and tracks staff work. Supports the professional growth and development of student employees.; submits timesheets to the Student Employment Program; maintains the Student Employee Training Manual.
11. Coordinates fitness center and gymnasium operations ensuring that equipment is inspected, functioning effectively and in good repair. Maintains inventory control of recreation and Fitness Centre equipment; arranges for maintenance, replacement or repair as required; updates equipment maintenance records, as required.
12. Informs the Campus Administrator of equipment requirements, seeks out suppliers and enters web requisitions for major equipment purchases. Purchases supplies and equipment as needed and necessary.
- Coordinates fitness facility orientations and monitors participant use. Ensures patrons are safe and equipment is used properly and safely.
- Determines the general layout of the equipment, fitness and storage areas in the Fitness Centre
- Provides initial physical activity pre-screening to identify possible risk associated with using the Fitness Centre and requests further evidence of readiness to be physically active (i.e. physician’s approval) as required.
- Coordinates with external facility rentals and booking for various off-campus recreation programs.
- Acts as the First Aid responder in the event of an accident within the Fitness Centre.
Student Orientation
18. Coordinates with OC departments with collecting and tracking student orientation sponsorship agreements with external partners.
19. Coordinates a series of games and activities for student orientation including securing the venue, supplies, materials, food and prizes.
20. Coordinates contracts with external suppliers and submits invoices in a timely manner.
21. Coordinates a series of events throughout the school year which allow students to feel welcome and informed throughout their time at OC.
22. Represents the Community Engagement & Careers department on various OC committees.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Graduation from a two-year Recreation diploma program or equivalent is required. A degree in Recreation, Kinesiology or equivalent is preferred. Must be registered with the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association or equivalent in weight training. Must have Standard First Aid and CPR, level C, Serving it Right certificate and Food Safe.
A minimum of 2 years related experience in recreation is required. Previous experience in working with post-secondary services for students is preferred. Previous supervisory experience is an asset.
Skills and Abilities

Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Able to bend and lift up to 60 pounds of free weights

Able to bend, turn and lift weight benches and other equipment
-
Able to walk, run, bike on all cardio equipment to check proper functionality

Able to lift, turn, pull, push equipment & machines to check proper functionality and to organize layout
-
Able to assist in the set-up and teardown of equipment for events

Able to lead and participate in all types of sports and recreational activities including hiking, kayaking, biking etc

Attention to details and superior planning and organizational skills

Ability to coach and guide student employees

Strong collaboration and communication skills
