About the role
The Archives of Ontario is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Archivist to join the Collections Management Branch (CMB). You have experience acquiring, arranging and describing collections, and appraising personal and organizational records with a growing emphasis on working with digital records and digital access tools as part of CMB's evolving program.

About the job
In this role, you will:

Assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing the acquisition and management of archival records, including digital records handled within CMB workflows
-
Appraise government and private records for archival value
-
Arrange and describe collections using RAD, ISAD (G) or another accepted standard
-
Support efforts to digitize a wide variety or archival material, including graphic materials, text, objects and audio-visual material
-
Liaise with various unites in the Archives of Ontario to support outreach and education activities
-
Monitor storage conditions and identify preservation concerns
-
Support the development and maintenance of the Archives' digital platforms including considerations for digital storage environments
Please note: These positions include repetitive tasks such as data entry, lifting and moving 35-50 lb containers of archival material
What you bring to the team
Mandatory:
- You are able to lift and move 35-50 lb containers of archival material
Technical Knowledge:
You can demonstrate:
-
knowledge of archival theory and best practices to implement archival functions such as appraisal, acquisition, arrangement and description, preservation and reference
-
familiarity with digital record formats, digital preservation concepts, and metadata used to support access and management
-
an ability to apply knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Archives and Recordkeeping Act, Copyright Act and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
Communication Skills:
You can demonstrate:

customer service and interpersonal skills to respond to complex inquiries
-
effective oral and written communication skills to provide reference and orientation services on archival holdings to the public and to prepare reports, briefing notes, and customer service guides
Interpretive and Problem-Solving Skills:
- You can demonstrate interpretive and problem-solving skills to assess and research requests for original records
Analytical and Organizational Skills:
You can demonstrate:

analytical skills to develop options and recommendations on program and policy directions

time management skills to set priorities and meet deadlines
