The Role

The Director of Operations provides strategic leadership and direction for all Blue Water Wash operations, ensuring excellence in execution and continuous improvement across the organization. This role works closely with the senior leaders to develop and implement strategies that align with long-term business objectives.

The Director of Operations is accountable for ensuring that all operational activities run smoothly and optimally across multiple sites. This includes oversight of quality assurance, customer service, and revenue growth. The successful candidate is a visionary operations leader with a strong ability to drive initiatives that support growth, efficiency, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all Blue Water Wash operations, ensuring consistent, efficient, and high-quality execution across all sites.
  • Business Strategy & Growth: Lead long-range and annual planning, identify growth opportunities, pursue new customers, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor operations leaders, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting ongoing professional development.
  • Financial Management & Reporting: Develop and manage budgets, review financial and operational performance data, analyze wash data trends, and identify opportunities for cost control and productivity improvements.
  • Operational Excellence & Compliance: Ensure consistent processes, SOPs, safety standards, and biosecurity compliance across all locations while driving process improvements.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Relations: Maintain strong customer and business relationships, address concerns as required, and prepare presentations and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Risk Management & Biosecurity Leadership: Identify and mitigate operational risks and stay current on global biosecurity trends to ensure industry-leading practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field (considered an asset)
  • 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, preferably within the industry
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage departmental operations to achieve performance targets
  • Strong financial literacy with experience managing departmental or functional budgets
  • Proven strategic thinking combined with strong execution and operational problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency with operational management software and tools

Founded in 1987 as a one-man operation, Steve's Livestock Transport has since grown to become North America's largest commercial livestock transportation company. Over the last 25 years, we have expanded to include a dry freight division. We have three locations to serve our customers, in Blumenort and Brandon, Manitoba and Acme, Alberta.

We have a fleet of 130 power units, transporting more than 2,500 cattle and 150,000 pigs per week within Canada and the United States. All 3 of our locations have commercial washing and repair facilities for trucks and trailers. In addition to servicing our own units, these facilities provide custom washing and repairs for other large equipment and fleets as well.
