As a key member of the Health & Safety/HR Team and under the direction of the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, the Environmental Health & Safety Assistant is responsible to assist in preventing and eliminating injury and illness to employees and assist the company in complying with safety rules and regulations that are applicable to MOA. This position is responsible for the review, monitoring and advisement of the Company’s Health & Safety management systems, to ensure the safety of all staff, visitors and contractors and to plan, direct, and coordinate the organization’s activities to ensure compliance with internal (MOA & MJA), ethical, environmental and regulatory standards.
The shift that is available for this position is Monday to Friday or Sunday to Thursday 2:00pm - 11:00pm (9 hours with 1 hour unpaid lunch), which will be training Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm for a period of approximately 4-6 weeks.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Review, monitoring of the company’s health and safety management system to ensure the safety of all staff, visitors and contractors.

Assist with the Compliance process and applicable policies and processes in conjunction with the MJA compliance team/department, including risk reports.

Assist with evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk through risk assessments and adherence to the laws.

Assist with Implementing practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting health & safety and safe working practices in the workplace

Assist with investigating accidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required, including communicating to, training, and following up with supervisors and employees.

Present safety orientation and training for all new employees, existing employees, and visitors to ensure complete and effective understanding of potential risks and expected behaviours within the company.

Present EHS related training as required.

Support and promote occupational health, wellness, and safety department initiatives.

Conduct daily EHS audits

Organize and lead the 5S Committee

Act as a train the trainer for crane, lift truck, and supervisor training.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years experience in the field of Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment or equivalent internal testing, and/or demonstrated work experience
- Post secondary education in health & safety or related discipline preferred
- Understanding and experience with ISO 9001 and ISO/TS/IATF16949 certification systems
- Knowledge of ISO 14001
- Environmental Management system and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and safety management system experience is considered an asset
- Strong team building experience
- Strong presentation, written, and verbal skills
- Strong morals and ethics, along with commitment to staff privacy
- Effective problem solving, decision making and collaboration skills with the ability to impact and influence a passion for safety
- Strong sense of urgency; works well under pressure and reacts to stressful situation with professionalism
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, attention to detail and time management skills
- Excellent human relation skills and ability to work with various levels within an organization
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email
- Attention to detail in all areas of work
- Professional appearance and manners
