Position Summary Our client is seeking an experienced Material Control Manager to lead Master Scheduling, Capacity Planning, Inventory Management, and Production Control operations within a complex manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining inventory management systems, overseeing production planning and dispatching activities, and ensuring the efficient flow of materials throughout the manufacturing process.
Working closely with Sales, Operations, Engineering, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams, the successful candidate will balance production capacity, material availability, and customer requirements to ensure products are delivered on time and cost-effectively. This position also oversees warehouse operations, inventory accuracy, engineering change implementation, and continuous process improvements.
Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain the master production schedule to ensure customer requirements are accurately reflected within the MRP/ERP system. Create detailed production capacity plans and coordinate supplier schedules based on customer demand and forecast requirements. Prioritize production activities across critical resource centers to minimize scheduling risks and maximize throughput. Manage the procurement and availability of direct materials to support production schedules. Oversee warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy. Establish and maintain planning parameters including lead times, safety stock levels, batch sizes, and shrinkage factors. Support Sales and Contracts teams by providing lead times and production capacity information for customer quotations. Lead the Production Control, Material Planning, Shipping, Receiving, and Warehouse teams, including performance management, coaching, training, and workforce development. Ensure departmental compliance with health and safety policies and promote a safe working environment. Coordinate monthly and annual production planning activities based on sales forecasts and business objectives. Drive continuous improvement initiatives involving ERP/MRP systems and departmental processes. Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly production, inventory, and capacity reports for leadership. Develop and maintain departmental procedures that comply with quality management systems and corporate standards. Monitor production flow and identify opportunities to improve supply chain performance and operational efficiency. Manage company-owned and customer-owned tooling inventories, including tracking, reporting, surplus disposition, and inventory accuracy. Oversee scrap reporting and inventory reconciliation processes. Collaborate with Engineering to effectively manage engineering changes and their impact on inventory and production schedules.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Accounting, or a related discipline. 5–10 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably within a highly regulated industry such as aerospace or automotive. APICS CPIM certification is considered a strong asset. Manufacturing Leadership certification is an asset. Previous leadership experience managing production planning, inventory, warehouse, or supply chain teams. Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment is considered an asset. Strong knowledge of inventory control, production planning, shipping and receiving, and warehouse operations. Solid understanding of MRP/ERP systems and production scheduling. Experience supporting ERP implementations or system upgrades is preferred. Knowledge of forecasting, cost control, and capacity planning. Advanced Microsoft Excel and database management skills. Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Analysis, and 8D. Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments. Self-motivated leader with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
