PositionOverview
The Nisga'a School District is seeking a Learner Support Teacher (LST) to support students with diverse learning needs at Nisga'a Secondary School. The Learner Support Teacher works within inclusive, relationship‑centered learning environments and contributes to reconciliation through respectful, responsive learner support. Working collaboratively with school teams, the role focuses on strengthening access to learning and supporting student wellbeing within a community‑connected context.
KeyResponsibilities
- Provide targeted individual and small‑group instruction to support students with diverse learning needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan, implement, and support inclusive and co‑teaching practices
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized learning plans with academic, behavioural, and social‑emotional goals
- Support school‑based teams through assessment, problem‑solving, and planning processes
- Assist with the coordination, administration, and interpretation of assessments to inform programming and student support
- Work in partnership with families, school staff, and district personnel to support student wellbeing and success
- Collaborate with partner agencies and service providers, including Nisga'a Valley Health Authority, Nisga'a Children and Family Services, Provincial School Outreach, and other community partners, to support coordinated services for learners and families
- Engage in professional learning and collaborative practices that strengthen learner support services
RequiredQualifications
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligibility)
- Legally permitted to work in Canada
- Master's degree in Inclusive Education or a related field
- Training and experience in inclusive education or learner support services
- Knowledge of the BC Curriculum, including learning standards and core competencies
PreferredAttributes
- Current Level B assessment certification, or demonstrated experience conducting Level B educational assessments
- Strong assessment, planning, and problem‑solving skills to support individualized learning and intervention
- Experience supporting students with diverse academic, behavioural, and social‑emotional learning needs
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusive instructional and co‑teaching practices
- Well‑developed communication and relationship‑building skills with learners, families, and colleagues
- Socially responsive and respectful approach to supporting student wellbeing
- Commitment to teamwork, ongoing professional learning, and reflective practice
Compensation******& **Incentives
- Competitive salary aligned with the BCTF salary grid
- $10,000 Provincial Signing Bonus (eligible candidates)
- Recruitment & Retention Allowance
- Affordable, furnished staff housing ($350–$600 per month)
- Moving allowance
- Mentoring and instructional coaching
