Your Role at Cabot

Cabot has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Specialist to work in our Sarnia Carbon Black Manufacturing Facility. Cabot is a leading player in the carbon black industry, dedicated to delivering high-quality products and sustainable solutions. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Specialist to join our dynamic team and contribute to the continuous improvement of our manufacturing facility. The Environmental Specialist leads and facilitates the development and implementation of cost-effective programs and procedures that continuously increase overall awareness in the environmental area to eliminate undesired incidents at the site. The Environmental Specialist works with the local management team to assure local compliance with all applicable plant, company, and governmental policies, procedures, regulations, and legislation and supports the Plant Management Team and Regional/Corporate SH&E to ensure environmental science concerns are identified and managed.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Lead and facilitate the development and implementation of environmental training and other programs and activities necessary to ensure facility environmental compliance.
  • Monitor proposed and existing environmental regulations and legislation to determine their impact on operations. Develops, implements, and manages compliance programs for the plant.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Long Range Plans (LRPs), Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs) , global standards, budget and other corporate efforts.
  • Establish site environmental goals and objectives consistent with global and regional goals. Assists management in interpreting and applying technical regulatory requirements on production operations.
  • Leads and facilitates the development and implementation of facility environmental improvement plans to enhance compliance and improve environmental performance. Monitors and reports progress toward achieving site goals and objectives using established environmental metrics.
  • Manages system for identifying, investigating, recording, and reporting undesired environmental events. Ensure corrective actions are taken to fulfill regulatory compliance.
  • Provides regular communication to all levels of management regarding environmental issues and performance to ensure that relevant issues are quickly and appropriately addressed.
  • Manages all plant permitting efforts to meet regulatory requirements and build competitive advantage.
  • Supports implementation and maintenance of the Responsible Care Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001 technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
  • Supports safety, health and security .
  • Provides supervision, direction and coaching to SHE Adminstrator(s) . Motivates and supports to maintain safety, efficiency and productivity. Coaches, monitors and trains employes to promote accountability and task performance to Cabot standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Strong knowledge of environmental science; local and national regulations; technical practices in monitoring and measuring environmental emissions and compliance
  • A self-starter with excellent time management, problem solving and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced and evolving environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively engage in verbal and written communications that are timely, concise and clear.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams and conduct effective one on one and group meetings.
  • Ability to negotiate with external stakeholders

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or Engineering
  • 3-5 years related experience
  • Occupational health and safety experience an asset

  • Salary Range : The pay range for this role is from $100,000 to $130,000. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skill, qualifications and experience.
