Mechanical Design Engineer-Onsite Position
We have a rewarding opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our world class facility in Ottawa, ON.
As our Mechanical Design Engineer, you will provide technical support to the department's activities in engineering analysis, mechanical design, materials science, environmental testing, reliability modelling and failure investigations.

Your Challenge:
- Provide detailed design, experiments and research in the following areas: mechanical design of complex rugged computers and chassis systems, PWB design details and microstructure, adhesives and thermal interface materials, thermal and structural design considerations, and mechanical assembly drawings.
- Design and conduct experiments, collect data and interpret results, conduct analysis and write analysis and test reports. Capability to draw conclusions and reconcile differences between predicted and actual results.
- Design mechanical packaging solutions using PTC Creo including mechanical parts and 3D assembly, associated drawings and Bills of Material (BOMs)
- Support design and analysis for high reliability rugged environments, including severe shock, vibration, and temperature extremes
- Provide technical support to failure investigations. May lead failure investigation teams. Interpret results and draw appropriate conclusions, documenting and presenting findings to other staff
- Provide technical support for bid responses
- Support R&D Engineering teams in regular design reviews
- Stay current with new trends in materials used for rugged electronics environments
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 4-6+ years of experience, preferably in a rugged electronics design and manufacturing environment
- Experience with heat transfer problem solving (conduction and convection), vibration dynamics, fluid dynamics and materials science
- Experience with MIL-STD's and other Aerospace specifications is an asset
- Experience with electronics manufacturing processes is an asset
- Experience with one or more of the following tools is an asset: PTC Creo CAD, Abaqus FEA, Flotherm CFD
- A working knowledge of FEA techniques is essential
- Skills in analyzing data, leading small teams, multitasking, judgment and decision-making
