The Whole School is seeking a caring, energetic, organized, and community- minded individual to lead our new Before & After School Care Program for the 2026-2027 school year.

This is an exciting opportunity to help build a meaningful, relationship-based childcare and enrichment program within a small rural independent school that values inclusion, emotional wellbeing, creativity, outdoor education, and whole-child learning.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and is passionate about creating a calm, safe, engaging, and supportive environment where students can thrive beyond regular school hours.

Schedule

Monday–Thursday

Morning Program

7:15 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

After School Program

3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Additional paid planning/preparation hours may be available.

Wage

$25–$30 per hour depending on qualifications and experience Plus 4% holiday pay

Position Summary

The Before & After School Care Program Coordinator / Supervisor is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, engaging, and emotionally supportive environment for Kindergarten–Grade 7 students before and after the school day.

This role includes supervising children, planning enrichment activities, supporting emotional regulation and social development, communicating with families, and helping establish a positive and welcoming program culture aligned with the values of The Whole School.

Key Responsibilities

**Child Supervision & Safety **

  • Supervise children in a safe and attentive manner at all times
  • Maintain appropriate student supervision ratios
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed
  • Support smooth transitions before and after school
  • Maintain sign-in/sign-out procedures

**Program Planning & Activities **

  • Plan and facilitate engaging age-appropriate activities
  • Create calm and inclusive routines
  • Incorporate activities such as:
  • Outdoor play
  • Arts and crafts
  • Mindfulness and emotional regulation
  • Games and enrichment activities
  • Music and creative exploration
  • Homework or quiet support time

**Emotional & Social Support **

  • Foster positive relationships with students
  • Support emotional regulation and conflict resolution
  • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment
  • Encourage kindness, cooperation, and community-building

**Communication & Collaboration **

  • Communicate respectfully with families and staff
  • Share important information regarding student wellbeing and safety
  • Collaborate with teachers and administration when needed
  • Participate in program planning and development

Program Administration

  • Maintain attendance records
  • Support organization of supplies and materials
  • Help maintain clean and organized program spaces
  • Assist with implementing policies and procedures

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience working with children
  • Valid First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Criminal Record Check clearance
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Reliable, patient, flexible, and professional

Preferred Assets

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Education Assistant experience
  • Child & Youth Care background
  • Outdoor education experience
  • Experience supporting neurodiverse learners
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning practices
  • Experience in arts, music, yoga, mindfulness, or recreation programming
